Bibitayin ka na namin!
September 14, 2006My boss gave me a new task and it’s optimizing JR, Fred, & Dennis work. The goal of the task is to shorten the login process from 25 secs to 5 secs. So I began scrutinizing their work (hehe
) then JR told me ‘Bibitayin ka na namin!’. So far I made it 17secs. I wonder if im still alive after I complete the task hehe
Goodbye
May 10, 2006I just resigned from work. and today… is my last day. My last day at dotPH. Now I know… how it feels like to leave the job you really really like. sigh. Now Im gonna miss the sound of knuckle sandwich, some famous line (hehe) and especially @#$%^&!! hahaha! :p but this doesn’t mean that I’ll end this blog. the blog of Don Andrez. Quite hard to let go of something you put your heart into
After I left .ph, Jolo (Graphic Artist) followed, then Nap (Web Programmer), and then Albert (Web Programmer).
This is for you! Top & Middle Level Manager!
March 26, 2006Such a lovely word from a Microsoft employee:
‘You are our leadership. When we succeed, it is directly because of how you lead and manage your teams. When we fail, it is directly because of how you lead and manage your teams. We’ve had enough of failure and we’ve had enough of you. Drop off your badge on the way out. Your personal belongings will be dropped off at your house. Now get out of my sight.’”

Halt != Shutdown
January 2, 2006Halt and Shutdown are NOT identical functions! They do shutdown the system but how they do it makes them different from each other. (more…)
it’s open
October 17, 2005This is a good news to all Gallery users out there, especially those who use PocketPC. The upcoming version of Pocket Gallery is now open to the whole Gallery community!
Hot Xpresso
October 12, 2005This is no coffee talk. I’m referring to the java uploader of i.Gallery. You’re familiar with this tool if you upload your photo in i.panel. Yes the java uploader! I code-named it Xpresso (not official). For some user it’s like a gift from heaven (I’m one of them) and some a ‘bully’
.
Here are some useful notes about Xpresso:
- If you open the java console you should see this message: Xpresso Version 1.0 (Build 2005-7). If you see an earlier build or version number better clear your browser/jre cache.
- If you gonna upload some animated GIF or a Transparent PNG image, I recommend you to use the other uploader. A bug in Java destroys some GIF image and inverts transparent PNG.
- Xpresso compress and resize images with greater than 70 kilobytes file size.
- You can use Xpresso to upload Microsoft Office Documents and PDF.
Hidden .Net
September 29, 2005Do you know that ur Windows XP Setup CD got some cool stuff on it. Get it up and explore it! Hidden in that cd is the powerful .Net runtime. (to be continue..)
Tips for Worry Free Web Travelling
September 25, 2005Just wanted to share some tips for a more secure web surfing
Tip 1: Disable all Thrid-Party browser extensions
It’s better to turn off all browser extensions to avoid some spyware from hijacking your browser. Aside from security, This will improve the stability of your browser!

Also consider the following:
- Uncheck Enable Install On Demand (Other)
- Check Disable Script Debugging, both
- Uncheck Display a notification about every script error
A job well done
September 24, 2005I would like to congratulate my colleagues at dotPH, especially Sir Mario and Mark, for bringing up the i.ph servers 1 hour earlier than the expected time
Mathew saved Pocket Gallery
August 25, 2005mathew.i.ph, the cutest site I've seen in i.ph
I would like to thank Mathew for letting me test pocket gallery in his site. The site is an ideal testing ground because it got a numerous photo/s that differ in size. Because of it I found new leaks and bug in pocket gallery and i.gallery…
Future of I.S. Programming
April 27, 2005The future of Information System (IS) Programming lies on Intermediate Language/s (.Net and Java). Using IL languages gives some value in developing IS because you only think of the solution itself. In IL, You don’t need a dozen line of code and kernel-talks just to make a simple window - almost everything is already ‘pre-constructed’. (2 b continue…)
Mobile Device Tsunami
The future of I.T. is in Mobile Devices (SmartClients). The advent of IPv6 (which will bring about 1 million IP Address per person, Enough even if we colonize other planets) will bring a tsunami of new high breed mobile devices (Microsoft is already starting -> TabletPC)… (to be continue..)
New Look, New User Experience
April 13, 2005Pocket Gallery got a new look! And it’s a treeview (Like WIndows Explorer) to give i.ph user more comfort in managing their i.gallery. I dumped the ‘Windows XP My Picture Look’ because it got some performance load and it’s not GPRS friendly. I’m employing kaizen (Continuous Improvement, A Japanese Management Style) on Pocket Gallery, even if its on development stage, so expect that there will be a lot of changes in Pocket Gallery especially if a feature met it’s shortcoming.
Rooting it Out
March 30, 2005Ever wanted to root-out (root out means that you want to acquire the root account or gain an administrative rights over a system; others called it uprooting) a Linux (pronounced as ‘lih-nucks’ but most of the time people pronounced it as ‘lee-nukes’) box? Here’s the simpliest and the basic:
During boot time, the bootloader ask for what to boot. Instead of choosing something press esc, a prompt like this boot: will appear, if you’re using lilo; for grub its different. Type linux single and press enter. If the system boots up then Viola! the root is yours to command! but when it ask for a password then your SysAd already fixed it. All Unices (plural of Unix), As far as I know, got this single user thing (It’s a part of Unix; for me it’s a security flaw) but some distribution got it fixed by default.
Surf Your Stuff
March 29, 2005Now you can easily surf & manage your i.Gallery with your PocketPC
Pocket Gallery works like a web browser. It enables you to browse other’s people gallery (just like the picture below, Im browsing mathews gallery) and if you hold an account with the gallery you can easily login and upload pictures to the gallery!
Testing Site
March 22, 2005Did you know? That this site is used for testing the development version of Pocket Gallery! So don’t be surprised if you see unusual images, and if one day you got an administrative rights over the site! (Just Kidding!)
Im testing Pocket Gallery’s response rate, parsing engine, mini-database, communication, and memory management for any leaks and bugs.
If you want your site to be a testing ground for pocket gallery. Please create a tagboard entry, here at donandrez.i.ph, with a message of: Test My Site! + Your blog address. If your site got picked you’ll receive a tagboard message of ‘Pocket Gallery Testing Site’ (from me, donandrez). Testing is limited only to browsing of gallery. It will not affect your administration of your site nor it will cause any security problem.
A new way to your i.Gallery
March 18, 2005If you’re really addicted with your i.ph then listen to this, Im currently developing a pocket pc application that will manage your i.Gallery, Just like Gallery Remote! Features include:
Listed Pictures. Yes! your pictures are listed and in thumbnail view! (Just like My Pictures in Windows XP).
Cached Album List. It keeps a mini-database of your albums to speed up your browsing.
PLAYS YOUR MP3!!! Im currently developing this feature. It will stream your MP3 to your PocketPC! (Yup! you don’t need to download it! No need to buy a dozen memory card for your MP3, all you need is a huge space in your i.ph account!)
