Tips for Worry Free Web Travelling
September 25, 2005Just wanted to share some tips for a more secure web surfing
Tip 1: Disable all Thrid-Party browser extensions
It’s better to turn off all browser extensions to avoid some spyware from hijacking your browser. Aside from security, This will improve the stability of your browser!

Also consider the following:
- Uncheck Enable Install On Demand (Other)
- Check Disable Script Debugging, both
- Uncheck Display a notification about every script error
Tip 2: Disable AutoComplete
Some Spyware, Trojans, and Worms can read the data stored in AutoComplete (Creepy!). So trade-off the convenience for security, Also this will keep-off unauthorize user from accessing your stuff (This feature demands physical security! With autocomplete anyone can use your yahoo, hotmail, i.ph account without entering your password!!!).
To turn off AutoComplete, go to Tools > Internet Options… > Content > AutoComplete…

Deselect all and click on Clear Forms and Clear Passwords.
Tip 3: Adjust Zone Security
Internet Explorer got this feature where you can adjust security settings for each zones (i.e. Internet, Intranet…). Be sure to use only Medium or High on all zones (Internet, Local Intranet, and Trusted Sites ONLY - Restricted Site must use the high setting). This ensure that even if ur browser is tricked ur system won’t be compromised.

To adjust, click on Tools go to Internet Options… and select Security Tab. Click on Default Level to use the slider. Tip 4: Use an Anti-Phishing Software
This is an add-in for MSN Search Toolbar… So you need to enable browser extensions and download MSN Search Toolbar and this add-in > Microsoft Phishing Filter Add-in for MSN Search Toolbar. (Hey MSN Search Toolbar enables Tab Browsing for Internet Explorer!)
