Halt != Shutdown
January 2, 2006Halt and Shutdown are NOT identical functions! They do shutdown the system but how they do it makes them different from each other.
Halt didn’t stop all running daemons (pronounced as dee-mons not they-mons) while shutdown performed a ‘clean-exit’ by stopping all daemons. This is a common mistake of newbies, threating halt and shutdown identical in function
